The QR code opens Google's write-a-review page
The code encodes a review link. The address always starts with https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid= and ends with the Place ID. That is the write-a-review page Google already uses. The person who opens it writes the review on Google, and they sign in there. This page does not see the review.
Download PNG for a high-resolution image, or SVG when the file should stay sharp at any size. Print the code at least 2 cm / 0.8 in on a side, and scan it with a phone before you print a batch. The plain review-link QR code does not expire.

That sample is the shape of the link. Swap in your own Place ID. Google's sample ID is only an illustration.
Shorten it when you want each scan counted
Press Shorten it to save the review link as a zip1.io address. The custom ending, the part after zip1.io/, is optional. Use letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores, up to 12 characters. Leave it blank and zip1.io chooses an ending.
The QR code is drawn in your browser. It encodes the review link, and zip1.io does not count those scans. After you shorten, you can switch the code to the short link, and each scan that opens it counts as a click. A click means someone opened the link. It does not mean they submitted a review.
The stats page shows country, browser, operating system and referring site, and the time of the last click. It does not show names, and it does not list each click. Anyone with the short link can open its stats. Password-protected links also need the password. Visitor IP addresses are stored to count unique visitors. They are never shown on the stats page or included in the export. Read more on click tracking.
Here is how to find a Place ID
A Place ID is the long code Google uses for one business. It usually starts with ChIJ. This page can read it when you paste the code, or when you paste a link that already contains it.
- Paste the code itself. If you already have the Place ID, put it in the box above.
- Paste a link that already contains it. A write-a-review link has
placeid=in the address. A long Google Maps address sometimes has!19sfollowed by a code that starts with ChIJ. Paste the whole address. - Already have a review link from Google? In Google Business Profile, Ask for reviews (or Get more reviews) gives you a link such as g.page/r/…/review. That is already a review link. You do not need this page: paste it into the zip1.io home page to shorten it and get a QR code.
- Find the Place ID on Google's own finder. Search for your business on Google's Place ID Finder, copy the code that starts with ChIJ, and paste it here.
The box reads a Place ID on its own, or pulls one out of a write-a-review link or a long Maps address. It does not search for your business name. This page does not contact Google, so a wrong Place ID still produces a link. Google shows its own message when someone opens it.
A code made of 0x, a colon, and another 0x is not a Place ID. This page will not guess one from it, and it will not look up a business by name.
The review link is built in your browser. For an email link instead, use the mailto link generator.
FAQ
-
Does this page look my business up?
No. It builds the review link from a Place ID you paste, or from a link that already contains one. It does not contact Google. You do not need a Google account to build the link. The person who leaves the review signs in on Google's own page.
-
What does the review link look like?
It starts with https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid= and then the Place ID. That address is Google's own write-a-review page.
-
Can I change where the short link goes later?
No. Once the short link is created, it keeps the review address from that moment. To use a different Place ID, make a new link.
-
What do the click numbers include?
The stats page shows country, browser, operating system and referring site, and the time of the last click. It does not show names, and it does not list each click. Anyone with the short link can open its stats. Password-protected links also need the password. Visitor IP addresses are stored to count unique visitors. They are never shown on the stats page or included in the export. A click means the short link was opened. It does not mean a review was submitted, and zip1.io never sees the review. A QR code of the review address itself, before you shorten it, is not counted.
-
What if the Place ID is wrong?
The link is still built. Google decides whether that ID is a real place when someone opens it. This page cannot tell you, because it never asks Google.
-
Can I offer something in return for a review?
No. Google's rules do not allow rewards for reviews, or asking only happy customers. Give the same link to every customer.
-
How do I print the QR code?
Make it at least 2 cm / 0.8 in on a side. Scan it with a phone before you print a batch. The plain review-link QR code does not expire.
